Sonic the Hedgehog: IDW Charts a Dramatic New Future for the Series – IGN Fan Fest 2025

IDW's enduring Sonic the Hedgehog comic series recently celebrated a significant achievement with the release of its 75th issue. Sonic the Hedgehog #75 depicted the final confrontation between Team Sonic and the antagonist Clutch, setting the stage for the suspenseful follow-up arc, "Scattered Pieces."

"Scattered Pieces" will continue across issues #76-80. IGN is exclusively showcasing new artwork from the penultimate chapter of this arc, Sonic the Hedgehog #79, at IGN Fan Fest. The gallery below presents the three variant covers for issue #79, alongside previously unveiled "Scattered Pieces" covers.

Sonic the Hedgehog #79, written by series veteran Ian Flynn, features interior art and the main cover by Adam Bryce Thomas, with variant covers by Tyler Mcgrath and Nathalie Fourdraine.

IDW's official synopsis for Sonic the Hedgehog #79:

The long-standing conflict between expert markswoman Whisper and shadowy assassin Mimic reaches its explosive conclusion!

Only one will survive this confrontation! Can Tangle and Silver alter the course of battle? Or will Whisper endure another devastating loss? This thrilling showdown is the culmination of years of rivalry!

Flynn shared with IGN, "IDW's Sonic the Hedgehog has thrived for seven years, establishing unique storylines, characters, and narrative elements. Many of these converged in Evan Stanley's recent arc. While reaching a climax is always satisfying, I'm equally excited to explore the aftermath. Many fans will be eager to know 'What happens next?' My arc provides answers, offers some resolutions of my own, and prepares the ground for Evan's next major arc in the series."
