WB Reportedly Cancels Unannounced Hogwarts Legacy Paid DLC

According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has canceled an unannounced paid DLC for the popular game Hogwarts Legacy. The planned story expansion was slated for release this year, along with a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, Bloomberg's sources indicate that Warner Bros. pulled the plug on the DLC this week, citing concerns that "the amount of content was not substantial enough to justify the price being considered." Warner Bros. did not respond to Bloomberg's request for comment on this matter.

This decision comes amidst a broader restructuring of Warner Bros.' gaming division, driven by ongoing financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company made the tough call to cancel its anticipated Wonder Woman game and shut down the studio behind it, Monolith Productions. This move was part of a larger series of closures that also affected WB San Diego and the studio responsible for MultiVersus, Player First Games. Additionally, Warner Bros. implemented layoffs at Rocksteady Studios just last September.

Despite the cancellation of the Hogwarts Legacy DLC, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of the Harry Potter franchise within its portfolio. The company has repeatedly stated that Hogwarts Legacy and the broader Harry Potter universe are key assets. A sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is reportedly "one of the biggest priorities" for Warner Bros. as it shifts its focus to fewer but more significant franchises. This emphasis is understandable given that the first game has achieved remarkable success, selling over 30 million copies.
