Gears of War: Reloaded will debut simultaneously on PS5 and Xbox platforms. Discover everything about this cross-platform launch and the key enhancements coming to the iconic shooter franchise.
Marking a historic shift, the previously Xbox-exclusive Gears franchise will arrive on PlayStation 5 alongside Xbox versions when Gears of War: Reloaded launches August 26. Xbox's May 6 social media announcement confirms their commitment to broader accessibility.
This multiplatform strategy reflects Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer's January statements to GamerTag Radio: "While we're proud of our platform, we won't restrict players from experiencing our studios' creations." Industry observers speculate this could set a precedent for future Xbox exclusives like Gears of War: E-Day.
Surprising fans of the 2015 Ultimate Edition, The Coalition's Studio Head Mike Crump revealed in a May 5 Xbox Wire post that Reloaded serves as both a tribute and technical showcase for the franchise's 20th anniversary. "We're inviting more players than ever to experience Gears' legendary moments," Crump stated.
The remaster delivers substantial technical improvements over its predecessor - 4K/60FPS campaign gameplay, 120FPS multiplayer support, and completely rebuilt visual systems including textures, lighting, and post-processing effects. Players gain all post-launch DLC content immediately, including bonus missions and unlockable cosmetics.
Ultimate Edition owners will receive free upgrade codes prior to the August 26 launch. Priced at $39.99 across all platforms, Reloaded will also be available through Xbox Game Pass subscriptions on release day.
