Phantom Blade Zero is set to offer a unique gaming experience with its four difficulty options and a host of new gameplay features. Get ready to dive into the world of Phantom Blade Zero in 2025 and learn more about its development and what to expect.
Phantom Blade Zero is breaking away from the Soulslike genre by offering four difficulty options: easy, ordinary, difficult, and extremely difficult. Despite its dark aesthetic and combat system drawing comparisons to Soulslike games after its reveal at the PlayStation Showcase 2023, the inclusion of these difficulty options sets it apart. Game Director Soulframe clarified in a tweet following the Summer Game Fest 2024 that the team never intended to create another Soulslike game. Instead, their focus is on delivering "combo-driven, heart-pumping combat that is hectic, rewarding, and exhilarating."
While Phantom Blade Zero does draw inspiration from Soulslike games with its multi-layered maps, multiple approach paths, and hidden areas, Soulframe emphasized that the similarities end there. He described the game as "Ninja Gaiden Combat on a Souls Game Map," blending hack-and-slash action with expansive exploration.
Recent interviews have shed light on several exciting gameplay features of Phantom Blade Zero. Players will have a wide array of 30 primary and 20 secondary weapons to choose from, each with unique effects and gameplay mechanics. The main story is expected to take around 20-30 hours to complete, with an additional 20-30 hours of side content to explore.
Boss fights in Phantom Blade Zero will feature at least two phases. If a player dies during the second phase, they can restart from that point, skipping the first phase. A new game mode, "Li Wulin," allows players to rematch previously defeated bosses, unlocking new hidden bosses to challenge. Additionally, a mechanic that influences the game's ending has been hinted at, though details on how it affects the playthrough and the number of alternate endings remain undisclosed.
Phantom Blade Zero's "Year of the Snake Gameplay Trailer" showcases the main protagonist, Soul, battling the "Chief Disciple of The Seven Stars." The trailer also highlights some of the weapons Soul can use, such as the "Weapon No.13 Soft Snake Sword" and "Weapon No.27 White Serpent and Crimson Viper."
The trailer indicates that the release date for Phantom Blade Zero will be announced in 2025. The game's official Twitter (X) page also released a video celebrating the Lunar New Year, where Soulframe teased more exciting announcements for later in the year and promised to reveal something fans have never seen before.
Currently in development for PlayStation 5 with plans for a PC release, Phantom Blade Zero has no official release date yet. Keep an eye on our Phantom Blade Zero page for the latest updates and information about the game.
