Take-Two CEO Speaks on GTA 6 Delay, Stock Drop

Take-Two's CEO Strauss Zelnick has addressed shareholder concerns following the announcement of GTA 6's delay.

Earlier today, Rockstar confirmed a major delay for GTA 6, widely projected to become the largest entertainment release in history. Originally scheduled for a fall 2025 launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, the game is now set to arrive on May 26, 2026. This change shifts the release from Take-Two's 2026 fiscal year into its 2027 fiscal year.

Take-Two's stock value dropped by 7.98% in early trading at the time of writing. In an official statement published on its corporate website, Take-Two reaffirmed its expectation that the company will see sequential growth in Net Bookings (revenue), reaching record levels in Fiscal Years 2026 and 2027.

Zelnick personally commented, confirming Take-Two's support for Rockstar's decision to postpone GTA 6 and assuring shareholders that the company anticipates a multi-year growth phase.

"We fully support Rockstar Games in taking extra time to achieve their creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI, an experience that promises to be a groundbreaking blockbuster and surpass audience expectations," Zelnick stated.

"While we treat any shift in our release schedule with great seriousness and recognize the massive global anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI, our commitment to delivering outstanding quality remains unwavering. As we roll out our remarkable pipeline of titles, we anticipate multiple years of business growth and increased shareholder value."

With GTA 6 and its projected multi-billion dollar revenue now moving from the 2026 fiscal year, what else does Take-Two have in the pipeline? In addition to owning Rockstar, Take-Two also controls the publishers 2K Games and 2K Sports. Gearbox's Borderlands 4 is slated for a September release this year. Mafia: The Old Country is also expected this year, along with another profitable NBA 2K26 title from 2K Sports. Looking further ahead, the next BioShock installment and Ken Levine's upcoming game, Judas, are both in development.

Realistically, however, none of the 2K games releasing in the near future can compensate for the absence of the GTA 6 behemoth, leaving Take-Two's revenue streams thinner than initially projected. That said, GTA 6 fans, while largely unsurprised by the delay, were hoping for at least a fresh screenshot to lessen the disappointment.

Will GTA 6 launch on PC simultaneously with consoles now that its release has been postponed to May 2026?
