Lost Soul Aside, the highly anticipated Sony-published action RPG, will reportedly launch on PC in 2025 without the controversial PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking requirement. This significant change expands the game's potential market significantly, allowing Sony to sell the title in over 100 countries previously unsupported by PSN.
Developed by Shanghai-based UltiZeroGames as part of PlayStation's China Hero Project, Lost Soul Aside has been in development for nearly nine years. The Devil May Cry-inspired hack-and-slash title has garnered significant attention. While Sony, as the publisher, initially implemented mandatory PSN account linking for its PC ports, Lost Soul Aside appears to be breaking this trend.
Initially, the game's Steam page listed PSN account linking as a requirement. However, this was swiftly removed within 24 hours of the page going live, following the December 2024 gameplay trailer release. This marks the second time Sony has reversed its PSN linking policy for a PC title, following a similar reversal for Helldivers 2.
This decision is likely driven by a desire to maximize player reach and sales. The mandatory PSN linking policy negatively impacted the performance of previous PlayStation PC ports, notably God of War Ragnarök, which saw significantly lower player counts on Steam compared to its predecessor. By removing this barrier, Sony aims to ensure Lost Soul Aside reaches a wider audience. While the exact reasons remain unconfirmed, the move suggests a potential shift in Sony's strategy for future PlayStation PC releases, offering a more flexible approach to platform integration. This will undoubtedly be welcomed by PC gamers in regions previously excluded due to PSN limitations.
