inZOI’s Karma System Allows for Literal Ghost Towns

Discover how inZOI's unique karma system can transform bustling cities into eerie ghost towns if too many Zois die with poor karma. Dive into the details of this innovative system and get ready for the upcoming early access release.

inZOI Cities Can Be Overrun By Ghosts

New Zois Cannot Be Born If There Are Too Many Ghosts

inZOI's innovative gameplay feature allows cities to transform into ghost towns when overwhelmed by spirits. This intriguing aspect of the game was highlighted by inZOI Director Hyungjun Kim in the latest issue of PC Gamer Magazine. Kim explained, "Each time a Zoi performs an action, karma points are accumulated." He further elaborated, "Upon death, a karma evaluation determines the state of the soul. If the score is too low, the Zoi becomes a ghost and must redeem their karma points before they can transition into a new life."

The impact of this system on the game's cities is profound. Kim stated, "If too many ghosts appear in the city, new Zois cannot be born, nor can families be created, placing the responsibility on players to manage the karma of the Zois within the city." This dynamic adds a layer of complexity and engagement, requiring players to balance the karma system to prevent their cities from becoming ghost towns.

Kim emphasized the nuanced approach of inZOI's karma system, noting, "This system is not intended to enforce only 'good' actions and restrict 'bad' ones." He continued, "Life cannot be divided simply into good and bad; every life has its own meaning and value." Players are encouraged to delve into the game’s karma system to uncover diverse events and stories, exploring the many meanings of life.

inZOI emerges as a significant contender in the life simulation genre, yet Director Hyungjun Kim does not perceive it as a direct rival to The Sims. He clarified, "We see Inzoi not as a competitor to The Sims, but rather as another option that fans of this genre can enjoy." Kim expressed deep respect for The Sims, saying, "We have great respect for the legacy The Sims has built over the years, since we know that reaching that much depth in such a short period of time is no easy task."

The team behind inZOI aims to offer a fresh experience by emphasizing unique features. Kim highlighted, "Inzoi is designed to allow players to freely shape the life they desire, using various creative tools." These tools include a realistic visual style powered by Unreal Engine 5, in-depth customization features, and AI-driven creative tools. Kim hopes that players will use these features to "bring their imaginations to life, become their own protagonists and live in those worlds."
