The director of *The Witcher 4* has clarified that a recent video showcasing Ciri uses the same in-game model as seen in the initial reveal trailer, dispelling rumors of a redesigned character. CD Projekt Red released behind-the-scenes footage, including two close-up shots of Ciri at the 2:11 and 5:47 marks. These brief clips sparked online discussion, with some viewers noting subtle differences in Ciri's facial appearance compared to the cinematic trailer. Positive reactions to these new clips, however, contrasted with earlier criticisms of Ciri's look in the reveal trailer.

Initial speculation, fueled by some negative online commentary, suggested CD Projekt Red had altered Ciri's face following a perceived backlash. However, *The Witcher 4* game director, Sebastian Kalemba, took to social media to clarify that the in-game model remained unchanged. He explained that the behind-the-scenes footage showed a "snapshot" of the model before the application of cinematic effects, lighting, and animation seen in the polished reveal trailer.

Kalemba emphasized that variations in character appearance are common during development, and the final look may differ depending on the context (trailer, 3D model, in-game). This echoes a comment on the Witcher subreddit, succinctly summarizing the situation as a misunderstanding of how lighting affects in-game models.

*The Witcher 4*, the first in a new trilogy, features Ciri as the protagonist, a decision that was, according to executive producer Małgorzata Mitręga, a natural progression from the established lore. She highlighted Ciri's complex character and the opportunity to explore her story following Geralt's previous narrative arc. Kalemba further explained that Ciri's younger age allows for greater player agency in shaping her character, offering the developers more creative freedom.

While acknowledging potential negative reactions to Ciri's role, both Mitręga and Kalemba stressed that Ciri's position as the protagonist was a deliberate and well-considered choice, rooted in the series' narrative and character development. Geralt's voice actor, Doug Cockle, also voiced his support for this decision, highlighting the narrative potential of focusing on Ciri's story.

Further exclusive content on *The Witcher 4*, including a trailer breakdown and an interview discussing the game's development strategy to avoid a repeat of *Cyberpunk 2077*'s launch issues, is available.
