Effective January 23, 2025, following scheduled maintenance, ASTRA: Knights of Veda will discontinue English voice-over support. This decision, announced by developer FLINT on January 20th, aims to enhance game stability and improve the quality of other language localizations.
The update impacting languages such as German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian. However, Korean, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian will remain supported. Crucially, while English text will remain, in-game voice acting will default to Japanese for regions outside of Korea. FLINT assures players this change won't affect in-game chat functionality in any previously supported language.
This move follows a trend among gacha games. Several titles, including War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Aether Gazer, and Snowbreak: Containment Zone, have already implemented similar changes, citing reasons such as prioritizing the dominant player language (often Japanese) and managing long-term voice-acting costs.
Square Enix's War of the Visions, for example, phased out English dubbing for new content in May 2024. Aether Gazer completely removed English voice-overs in February 2024 due to financial considerations. Snowbreak: Containment Zone also dropped English dubbing in December 2023, citing player preference evaluations.
These decisions highlight the balancing act between providing diverse language options and resource allocation within the long lifespan of gacha games. Prioritizing the most popular language and optimizing resource management are key factors influencing these choices. FLINT assures players their commitment to providing a positive gaming experience remains unchanged.
