Bloodborne 60fps Patch Creator Targeted by DMCA

The creator of a popular Bloodborne 60fps patch has received a DMCA takedown notice from Sony. Lance McDonald, a well-known video game modder, announced the takedown on Twitter, stating he removed all online links to the patch as requested by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

McDonald referenced a past meeting with former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida, where he jokingly revealed his creation of the Bloodborne 60fps mod. Yoshida's reaction was laughter.

Bloodborne's status as an untouched title remains a significant point of contention among fans. Despite its critical and commercial success on PS4, Sony has yet to release an official next-gen patch, remaster, or sequel, leaving fans yearning for a 60fps experience.

Recently, advancements in PS4 emulation, specifically ShadPS4, have allowed for near-remaster quality gameplay at 60fps on PC, as highlighted by Digital Foundry. This technological leap may have prompted Sony's more assertive response. IGN has reached out to Sony for comment.

Earlier this month, Yoshida offered his perspective on Bloodborne's continued absence in an interview with Kinda Funny Games. He theorized that Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game's creator, deeply cherishes Bloodborne and is hesitant to allow others to work on it, even for a simple update or remaster. Yoshida emphasized this is merely his personal theory and not a leak of confidential information.

Consequently, Bloodborne remains largely untouched almost a decade after its release. While Miyazaki often avoids direct questions about Bloodborne, citing FromSoftware's lack of IP ownership, he did acknowledge in February 2023 that a release on modern hardware would be beneficial. The future of Bloodborne, however, remains uncertain.
