Sony proactively approached third-party developers and publishers to secure exclusive titles for the PS2, offering them a two-year exclusivity window. Take-Two, Rockstar Games' parent company, accepted the deal, leading to the release of GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas exclusively on the PS2.

Deering admitted to initial concerns about Microsoft potentially offering similar deals to enhance the Xbox's game library. "We were worried when we saw Xbox coming," he stated, explaining the urgency behind Sony's negotiations with key publishers and developers.
