CD Projekt Red recently shared exciting details about The Witcher 4, confirming the introduction of entirely new regions and monsters in an interview with Gamertag Radio.
Following the Game Awards 2024, a conversation between Gamertag Radio co-host Parris, The Witcher 4 director Sebastian Kalemba, and executive producer Gosia Mitręga (December 14, 2024) shed light on these upcoming additions.
Ciri's journey will take players far beyond familiar territory. Kalemba revealed the village showcased in the trailer is named Stromford, a place where a disturbing ritual of child sacrifice is practiced to appease their deity.
This deity, identified as the monster Bauk, is inspired by Serbian mythology. Kalemba described Bauk as a cunning and terrifying creature, a true master of fear. And Bauk isn't alone; players can anticipate encounters with numerous other, brand-new monsters.
While Kalemba expressed his enthusiasm for discussing these new elements, he remained tight-lipped about specifics, promising a truly unique experience within the familiar world of The Continent.
A subsequent interview with Skill UP (December 15, 2024) confirmed that The Witcher 4's map size will be comparable to The Witcher 3. Given Stromford's location in the far north, Ciri's adventures appear poised to extend beyond Geralt's explorations.
Returning to the Gamertag Radio interview, Kalemba highlighted significant advancements in NPC development.
Parris noted the reuse of NPC models in The Witcher 3, contrasting it with the apparent diversity in The Witcher 4's trailer. Kalemba responded that they are striving to give each NPC a unique life and backstory. The close-knit nature of a secluded village, he explained, will profoundly impact how NPCs interact with Ciri and each other.
CD Projekt Red is also enhancing NPC visuals, behavior, and facial expressions to create a more immersive experience.
While details remain scarce, these improvements strongly suggest a richer, more dynamic interaction with the game's non-player characters.
