Capcom is actively enhancing Monster Hunter Wilds' performance and exploring ways to reduce its PC GPU requirements before launch. Let's delve into the details.
On January 19, 2025, Capcom's German Twitter (X) account announced performance improvements for Monster Hunter Wilds. A video showcasing smoother gameplay during a Quematrice (a rooster-like brute wyvern) hunt highlighted the updated Prioritize Framerate mode for PS5, boosting fps at the cost of some graphical detail. The post confirmed similar efforts for the PC version, focusing on lowering GPU requirements. The goal is to improve performance while exploring ways to reduce the recommended GPU specifications.
Currently, the minimum GPU requirements are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Successful optimization could make the game playable on lower-end GPUs, expanding accessibility to a wider audience. To further aid players, Capcom plans to release a free benchmarking tool to help determine optimal settings and PC compatibility.
The initial open beta test (October-November 2024) revealed performance concerns. Steam players reported low-poly character models and monsters, leading to visuals described as sub-par. Frame rate drops and other performance issues were also reported, even on high-end PCs. While some players managed to improve performance, it often came at the expense of graphical fidelity.
Capcom acknowledged these issues on November 1, 2024, stating that an "afterimage noise" bug related to Frame Generation would be fixed in the final release. They also emphasized significant improvements since the beta. A second open beta test is scheduled for February 7-10 and 14-17 (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam), featuring Gypceros and a new monster. Whether these recent performance updates will be included remains to be seen. For more details on Monster Hunter Wilds, check out our related article.
